Polar vs Rugula

Decided to use some Supersonic Warriors 2 sprites again, this time to mock up a brawl between Polar and Rugula. In the scene above, Polar has been delivered a heavy blow and Rugula is going to take this opportunity to grab Polar.

I spent a good hour looking into a word processor thinking about how I would present this in a story format, and to be honest I don't think I'm up for writing any more. I used to enjoy it, and I have some ideas I'd love to put down but every time I go to do it I just lose all motivation. Not because I feel insufficient; rather that I plain do not desire to write, and that's okay by me.

Instead I shall summarize how the tale would go, and leave it there.




Polar's new homeworld is that of a reptilian type of people, but the planet is very much like Earth. Different animals of course, but the terrain is quite similar. This makes it a prime target for interstellar travelers, especially those who are willing to steal whatever resources they desire. Rugula and his crew come upon this planet; they use their scouters to identify some appropriate power levels, plot their course, prepare to enjoy the rage of battle and the resources available for plundering.

As their vessel approaches Polar and one of the local battle masters sense it, they recognize that this threat may be too powerful for them and put a call out to their allies. It does not take long before they all converge where Rugula's ship is landing; after a short introduction between the groups, battle breaks out. The fight remains quite even for a while, though it takes Polar and the same master from before to struggle against Rugula himself, until after most of Rugula's crew is knocked into submission.

With a hearty laugh, Rugula cuts loose and begins to knock the entire team around. Polar is quite surprised by this change of events, but decides that it's time for him to escape his first form. He asks for the others to buy him time as he begins his transformation. They oblige, but this winds up leaving most of them entirely out of commission for the rest of the battle.

Rugula is now left with only one barrier between him and victory, Polar is giving it his all but the saiyan is proving quite the fighter. They tussle back and forth for a few hours before the Saiyan begins to wear, but with Polar's training he is able to out last him despite their similar strengths. In the end, when Rugula is too worn to fight, the two warriors have an exchange.

"I've outlasted you, Rugula, how about you take this defeat and use it as a sign to stop this? You could have so much more if you did good in this life" says Polar, kneeling down beside the beaten Saiyan.

Between his heavy breathing, "Pathetic, you fight so well but you surrender yourself to this insignificance? Have you any idea how many races I've slaughtered? How many frail hearts like yours I've shattered beneath my heel? Even if I were worthless like you, I wouldn't be accepted as a hero. You'd do your people a service to kill me."

Polar sighed and with his tail he wrapped Rugula's arms to his sides and lifted him, "Look at you Rugula, you're completely done here. You can't even get out of this weak grasp, your life is all that's left. No matter how dark you think you are, there's obviously a chance for redemption. If you were truly so far gone, then you would never have become so raged when you saw your friends being harmed."

Rugula grit his teeth, he hated what he was hearing but hated even more the fact that he couldn't silence it. Polar began carrying Rugula to his ship, using his telekinetic powers to lift the battered bodies of Rugula's allies as well. Once inside, Polar laid them out carefully before sitting nearby, "What would you do with your freedom?"

Rugula propped himself up, "I'd break you, and take this world!" was his reply. His crew were starting to get their energy back, and it was Port who retaliated, "Captain, you defeated all of us just as this man beat you. You gave us the chance for a new life and we took it, in the beginning we feared you but I think I speak for all of us when we say that we've seen something more in you."

Rugula was shocked to hear this from his team, but all were agreeing with this declaration. Ale was the next to chime in, "You know that I love a good fight, but I've seen you struggling the same way I have. You've been longing for a great battle, and let me tell you that the best battle I ever had was against you. I used to think it was because of your strength, but I think it's because I had something to fight for."

Rugula remained silent for a while, Polar felt that things might turn for the better after all. As Polar stood and began walking away, he left a small radio on the floor near the group.

"I'm going to get my friends home, if you think that you need me just call for me on that radio. You're all welcome to consider this planet a new home, and I hope you can overcome the past, my friends" and with that, Polar escaped their vision.




That's the gist of what would go down, some fine-tuning and a lot of expansion would be required to create a genuine story but like I said in the beginning I don't have the desire to write that.
